“Our job is to win this championship again…”
As the 2017 British GT Championship gets underway and is aired LIVE on Front Runner on Easter Monday, we speak to reigning champion Jonny Adam for his thoughts on the season ahead. The pro driver currently holds the GT3 title and will be gunning for his third consecutive win. He races a TF Sport-prepared Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 with Derek Johnston.
Front Runner: Jonny, you’ll be defending your British GT crown this season, how are you feeling ahead of the first weekend of racing at Oulton Park?
Jonny: I am confident going into Oulton Park. As last year’s champion personally I think we as a team and car are stronger than last year. But our aim is to score in both races at the first race weekend of the year.
Front Runner: Jonny, you’ve been the factory driver for Aston Martin for a couple of years too, how important is that for your racing?
Jonny: Very! I have always worked towards become a professional racing driver and a special moment for me was in 2013 when I signed with Aston Martin Racing. It’s a great brand to race and represent all over the world.
Front Runner: You’re racing the TF Sport-prepared Aston Martin V12 Vantage with Derek Johnston, how is that partnership shaping up?
Jonny: It’s our second year together so things are a lot easier than the start of last season. It’s the team’s fourth season with this car, Derek’s third season in the Aston and my sixth! We know the V12 Aston Martin GT3 well so our experience hopefully will shine through!
Front Runner: What’s the one thing you’re looking forward to most about this 2017 British GT season?
Jonny: Spa is a great event. I love the track and it’s a fun weekend. The 3-hour race at Silverstone is interesting as well as strategy comes into place as it our longest race in British GT.
Front Runner: Who are you most looking forward to driving against this season?
Jonny: The Lamborghini was fast last season and the Bentley has been strong in testing. Our job is to win this championship again so the pressure is within to make that happen.
